Rafael Fragoso Pires was born to one of the most traditional families in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Even as he worked for decades as a senior executive in the family's large shipping and industrial businesses, Rafael developed a natural talent for designing fine, handmade, exquisite leather shoes and accessories. This passion was largely the result of Rafael's most successful equestrian career, highlighted by several national championships as well as a number of medals in international competitions. His passion for horses became his greatest source of inspiration for his shoes and accessories.

In 2007, Rafael heard his calling and decided to turn his shoes designing hobby into a vibrant new business. Fragoso, a manufacturer of fine, sophisticated, handmade leather shoes and accessories was born from a passion.
